Operational Excellence

The objective of the operations function is to produce goods and services, in line with the business strategy,

  • of the right quality
  • at the right speed
  • with the right flexibility to change volume, mix or delivery time
  • in a dependable way
  • at the lowest cost

Not easy. Besides actual production, product and process design, planning and control, and improvement are also critical elements of effective and efficient operations.

Since the early days of industrialization, a range of operations management strategies, methodologies and tools has been developed, with the aim to achieve “Operational Excellence”. This covers topics as wide as asset network optimization, supply chain management, plant layout and flow, process technology, job design and work organization, capacity and inventory planning and control, operations improvement, and strategies and concepts like TQM, Six Sigma and Lean.

At Implementum we believe that achieving operational excellence is not just a matter of designing things right, but implementing so through leadership involvement, teamwork, active problem solving and continuous improvement.

We have a broad experience with operational excellence assessments, defining and rolling out improvement initiatives, and supporting the implementation of programs like Lean and Six Sigma, including the use of tools like DOE’s, Value Stream Mapping, Waste Identification, Root Cause Analysis, Workplace Organization and 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, Quick Change-Over Techniques (SMED), Pull Systems and Flow.
